Vertigo gets all the love from critics but, for my money, this is Hitchcock’s best.
Home with a broken leg, Jimmy Stewart’s got nothing to do but get drunk and peer out the back window with his binoculars. As he gets drawn into the lives of his neighbors, Hitchcock develops each neighbor’s story as a movie in miniature.
This being Hitchcock, there’s a thriller and maybe even a murder. But Hitch also shows us a heartbreaking romance, a dancer struggling to make it in the big city, and a composer struggling to finish his big song.
Grace Kelly is beautiful and flrty as she tries to get Stewart to commit to a more serious relationship, while he’d rather get lost in the lives of his neighbors. Both are excellent
Psycho (35mm)_Saturday + Sunday
REAR WINDOW (35mm)_Vertigo gets a lot of love from film critics, but this one is my favorite. As Jimmy Stewart recovers from a broken leg, he has nothing to do but peer out the back window with his binoculars, kinda drunk. And through those binoculars, he gets a literal window into the lives of his neighbors, each a different genre of film played out in minature.
This being Hitchcock, there’s a murder and Grace Kelly, beautiful and flirty as she tries to get Stewart to commit to their relationship.
